Beginner Swim Lessons

Introducing Cyclone Swim Lessons!

Calling all future Cyclones!

Whether your swimmer is developing a love of the water, just learning the basics, or mastering technique and headed to a career in swimming, our coaches have what swimmers need.

Led by
Sequoia Head Coach Josh Hall, our program combines over 3,000 hours of hands-on in-water instruction and on deck coaching, and offers both private and group lessons where all ages and abilities are welcome. Together, we will develop a solid foundation of skill and safety in and around the water.

Elizabeth Slattery

missannasswimschool@gmail.com 615-308-0209

Elizabeth has been teaching children and adults to swim for over 20 years as the owner of Miss Anna's Swim School. Since 2003, she has taught more than 5,000 children through group and private lessons and built Miss Anna's Swim School into the premier program for children's swim training. She is now offering her successful training program to Sequoia members and their families. All swim lessons will be private and scheduled directly through Elizabeth. Elizabeth and her family have been long-term, active Sequoia members. Her husband, Steve, is a former board member and enjoys playing tennis. Their daughters, Katie and Georgia, were active members of the Sequoia swim team from elementary age through high school. Georgia was also a diver and Assistant Dive Coach for Sequoia for five years. Their son, Sam, was a member of the swim team, played tennis and worked concessions for several years in high school.

Glenn McCall

glenn.w.mccall@gmail.com 615-495-2359

Glenn has been a part of competitive swimming either in the pool, on the deck or as a parent for more than 40 years. Coach McCall was a collegiate swimmer at The University of Texas at Austin where he was a multi-year NCAA finalist, All-American and U.S. Swimming National finalist in backstroke. In the 1984 U.S. Olympic Trials, he finished sixth in the 200m backstroke, earning a Top 25 in the world ranking and was a member of the U.S. National Team. He also was a member of the U.S. Junior National Team that competed in a U.S. vs. USSR Dual Meet. Coach McCall has coached summer league, middle school and master's programs in Austin and Nashville, most recently with Nashville Aquatic Club and now with Ensworth Aquatics. Glenn has always been a large part of the Sequoia swim team meets.  If there is a swim meet happening at Sequoia, he is there to help and cheer our kids on!

Sarah Ockenhouse

sarah.ockenhouse@gmail.com 301-908-9850

One of the assistant coaches for Sequoia's very own swim team, Sarah has been swimming for the last 20 years, and coaching and giving swim lessons for the last 10 years to swimmers ranging in age from 2 years old through their teenage years. Sarah utilizes her background in competitive club swimming to support swimmers from the foundations of water safety and comfort in the water all the way through stroke development and refinement. As a current elementary teacher in Nashville, Sarah understands that every swimmer is at a different place in their swimming development and needs a different approach to best grow their abilities in the water. She will work directly with the child to identify their strengths and areas that the child can grow in their swimming development throughout the summer.

Syd Lindblom

slindblom@usn.org 704-654-5870

Syd started swimming at age 6 as a part of her local summer league team in Charlotte, North Carolina, and she's been swimming and coaching ever since! She started off swimming for SwimMac Carolina and eventually landed at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, where she was a multiple-time NCAA All-American as a distance freestyler and IMer. Syd has coached and taught swimmers at every level, from three-year-olds getting in the water for the first time to collegiate distance-swimming specialists. This is her second summer working with Sequoia's swim team, and throughout the rest of the year, she teaches 7th-grade English and coaches middle school swimming and cross-country at the University School of Nashville.

Bring A Friend
By Kim Sheridan May 1, 2025
Part of the fun and wonderful memories made at Sequoia involve bringing friends and family to the club who are not Sequoia members. We welcome guests, and are happy for our members to bring friends and extended family to the club as often as they like.
